Who we are

Burn Village is a community in the making. Its vision is to bring the principles and magic of Burning Man into daily life. It's a social experiment in making a better model for society, one that takes the elements of Burning Man and merges them with everyday, "default" life.

Burn Village is also 7 hectares of secluded, quiet natural land in East Portugal. It is nestled in a quiet valley overlooking a river and forested hills.

What this event is about

After celebrating the land opening in June with a mini-burn weekend, we are opening our gates for something a bit different: a slow burn.

Immersion Week is an open 10-day window to get a taste of long-term community living at Burn Village. It offers a balance between a Burning-Man event's highs and the slowness and solo-time needed for working on your own things, recharging, and grounding.

Come for anything between 2 nights and the full 10 days. Spend them on celebration, remote work, creative co-creation, dance, communal rhythms, personal expansion, and deep rest in nature.

Preliminary Daily Schedule

Every day flows organically based on participant contributions. Here's a glimpse of the suggested daily rhythm:

• 09:00 AM: Morning yoga, stretching, or emotional/reflective work
• 10:00 AM: Breakfast & morning coffee
• 11:00 AM: Communal work shifts (land projects, kitchen prep, village care)
• 12:30 PM – 06:00 PM: Workshops, coworking, nature walks, free time
• 07:00 PM: Shared communal dinner
• 08:00 PM: Community get-together & evening gathering
• 11:00 PM: Bonfire chats, acoustic music, and relaxing under the stars

What to expect

• Slow Burn Vibes: A fluid mix of Burning Man culture and community life, with enough private time to work and relax - ending with a mini-burn weekend celebration.
• Principles: The event follows the 10 Principles of Burning Man + 4 added principles of Burn Village.
  Get to know them if you don't already.
• Co-Creation: Content is created by us, the participants. Bring your ideas to life: facilitate a workshop, teach a mini-course, play a DJ set, build an art piece, or step up to a leadership position (like leading a project or managing kitchen shifts).
• Workshops & Deep Tracks: In this immersive event, we encourage taking advantage of the extended time available: teach a skill that takes a few sessions to master, go deeper with daily sharing circles and authentic relating, widen knowledge with multiple-session courses, or work on an art project that takes several days to build.
• Communal Effort: While living in the village, everyone agrees to contribute 1-1.5 hours a day working on collaborative tasks (kitchen, projects, gardening, MOOPing, etc.) to keep our village thriving.
• Coworking: A wooden coworking cabin with electricity, charging stations, and mobile coverage is available for online work.
• Nature Trips: Depending on the weather, expect a mid-week group trip to a nearby lake to refresh or a sightseeing hike.
• Music and Dancing: We'll end the immersion week with a weekend of partying together in nature, mini-burn style. Lower-key dancing, movement experiences, and live music are expected during the week itself.
• Decommodification and Gifting: Nothing can be bought or sold at the village itself. Instead, we run a gifting economy.
  Feel free to bring gifts that will make other people - and you - happy.

Living conditions & On-site infrastructure

• Communal Kitchen & Meals: We love cooking and eating together. We'll buy groceries together and cook as a group. The kitchen is vegetarian. Feel free to bring personal snacks or additional food if needed.
• Showers & Toilets: Compost toilets and off-grid showers are available.
• Camping & Sleep: BYO tent or campervan and camping gear.
  A shared sleeping tent is also available with limited space (up to 10 people) and requires prior signup.
• Water: Clean water and shower water will be provided. Bring a reusable water bottle, and your own 5L drinking water for backup.
• Electricity: Solar-powered stations are available for charging low-power appliances (power banks, phones, laptops).

Ways to Get Here

Burn Village is located near Castelo Branco, about 2.5 hours drive east of Lisbon. Map pin will be shared with the participants before the event.

• By Car / Campervan: Drive directly to the land. Road is accessible for anything up to the size of a campervan.
• By Public Transport: FlixBus (recommended) or train from Lisbon to Castelo Branco station, followed by a local taxi or ride-share to the village.
• Ride-Sharing Chat: Will be available closer to the event.

Financial participation

Immersion Week is a non-commercial co-creative community event. We don’t sell commercial tickets. Instead, everyone pitches in to cover communal food and operational expenses.

To help us prepare infrastructure and buy ingredients in advance, everyone is required to pay for their planned stay upon application approval:

• Communal meals (€8 per day): 2 shared communal meals a day. Mandatory for all participants to keep kitchen operations unified and simple.
• Operational contribution (€10 per day): Covers fuel & gas, land maintenance, project materials, and uncovered purchases.
• Total: €18 per day.

Details (how to pay, etc) will be communicated once registration is approved.

Good to know

Age: Adults (18+; babies welcome under parent supervision).
Pets: Well-behaved, socialized pets can be brought with prior approval.
Sound: Some of us will party until late, mostly during the weekend; bring earplugs if you need them.
Connection: Mobile coverage is available, but presence is always preferred.
